Moving to the country was one of the best decisions. After raising our family in and around the 4th largest concrete jungle in the USA, we were ready for a change of pace and a simpler way of life. Here are a few reasons we made the move:
- A connection to nature: Living in the city, it can be easy to become disconnected from nature. We found ourselves craving open spaces and fresh air. Country living has given us the opportunity to reconnect with nature and truly appreciate the beauty of creation. We wake up to roosters crowing, birds singing, and bumblebees buzzing. We sometimes watch the stars at night around campfires, but oftentimes, you’ll find us breaking a sweat building diy projects or tending to the garden.
A slower pace of life: The hustle and bustle of city life can be overwhelming. We were always in a rush to get somewhere. In the country, we’ve found that life moves at a slower, more natural, pace. We spend our time working on projects, while dreaming up our next DIYs. Mom is learning how to grow and preserve food, while Dad is discovering a talent for woodworking. - More space: In the city, we were always cramped for space. We longed for a little land to garden and a place to call home. Now we have room to grow, to breathe, and to welcome family.
- Better for our health: Country life has given us more opportunities to sip tea or coffee on our front porch as we watch the leaves change with the seasons. There is nothing quite like getting our hands in the soil and watching a tiny seed grow into its full potential. So many spiritual life lessons to be observed in nature! It’s hard work, but we try to keep a sense of humor. Laughter truly is the best medicine.
What we didn’t bargain for was all of the dirt that gets brought into the house. Oh my! I guess that’s why they say dirt is just a country accent, right? ha!
Overall, moving to the country was one of the best decisions we’ve made. We’re discovering a connection to nature and a slower pace of life. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to live on this beautiful little patch we now call home. We simply traded time spent sitting in traffic for raising chickens and growing tomatoes! No regrets!
